| October
at The Victoria…. |
|
Throughout
October restaurants all over London will be taking
part in this year’s Fight Hunger /
Eat Out – the campaign helps to raise
money for Action Against Hunger and its unique work
in helping malnourished children.
Here at The Victoria we will be adding an optional
£1.00 to each bill which will go directly
towards this worthy cause. |
|
| Apparently
British summertime runs right through to the 25th
of October however here in Sheen we are a wary
bunch so in fear of a cold snap we are making
sure our wood burning stoves are fit for a long
chilly winter. |
|
Our
brand new Brunch menu is up and running from 8.30am
until 3pm each Saturday with everything from a
full English breakfast to a full blown lunch.

full menu. |

Half
term is on the horizon so why not check out our
new
children’s menu and bring the
kids along for a holiday treat. The menu is available
from 12pm until 7pm daily Monday to Saturday.
By the way we always have a few children’s
options on our Sunday menu and we’re always
happy to do half portions of pretty much anything
on the Sunday menu. |

| Notes
from the kitchen |
|
|
From a culinary view point I actually look forward
to autumn simply because of the amazing array
of ingredients available. The game season is now
in full swing – we already have partridge
on the menu and pheasant will be making an appearance
soon. |
|
|
British shellfish is the best in the world. We
have fabulous Cornish mussels available as well
as razor clams – look out for the native
oysters too, ours are from Loch Ryan in Scotland
and whilst more pricy than the rock oyster they
are well worth it. |
|
|
On the vegetable front October is all about wild
mushrooms and brassicas - cavalo nero, curly kale
and savoy cabbage are all at their best right
now and all feature regularly on the menu. |
|
|
One other vegetable always associated with October
is the pumpkin. This year we have ordered 1 very
big specimen rather than a selection of smaller
ones – in fact I reckon I’ve got the
biggest pumpkin in Sheen (!) so if anyone can
carry a bigger one into the pub during October
they can have pint on me. |
|
|
Finally a bit of media news. Its my duty to big
up a show called Family Super Cooks
which starts on October 26th on BBC Good Food
channel. The programme is hosted by Amanda Lamb
and Yours truly and aims to find the very best
family food in Britain. Some of the food we tried
was of the highest order – take a look and
if you think your mob can do better then apply
for series 2! |
|
|
Last but not least I have great pleasure in announcing
that I am a celebrity judge for the much awaited
Ealing’s got Talent show to be held at the
end of the month! Wow Success at last! |
|
| Bon appétit |
