| Welcome
back for another instalment of the Victoria Newsletter.
June is already shaping up to be quite a busy
month… |
|
| On
June 10th The Victoria will play host to a fundraising
lunch in aid of the Macmillan Cancer support charity.
A three course summer lunch menu, including a
drink, will be offered to guests. After lunch
the UK’s leading Media doctor Dr Mike Smith
will give a short talk. |
| You can book your place
by clicking http://www.thevictoria.net/victoria-events.htm |

The Victoria’s summer barbecue season kicks
off in June. We have very swish new furniture
in place as well as a fantastic garden menu providing
full on food or a simple snack all cooked right
before your eyes by our handsome kitchen team
(!) |
| Details of when we will
be lighting the coals will be posted on our website
shortly. |
|
|
Olly Smith, our celebrity wine buff, has just
finished our new wine list. Many of the favourites
remain along with some stonking additions. We
have also extended our range of wines by the glass
as this has proved very popular. Our champagne
selection has also had a summer make over and
as a result we are selling off our last few bottles
of Bollinger Rosé in our summer sale for
a mere £85.00 (that’s a saving of
£25.00) - what could be better than sitting
back on a summers day and enjoying one of the
finest champagnes ever bottled.... Members of
Parliament with access to an expense account are
most welcome (!!) |
|
|
Don’t forget Fathers Day on Sunday June
21st, which incidentally is, also the longest
day of the year – and it will feel like
it if you forget to treat the old man! |
| We will be spit roasting
a rib of beef along with other delicacies so join
us for the father of all menus |
|
| Wednesday
24th is midsummer’s day and to mark this
mysterious occasion we shall be holding a naked
maypole dancing extravaganza from midnight until
dawn when its tea and toast all round. Don’t
miss it. |
|
|
It’s time to look out your umbrella and
wellies once more because the last week of June
is the first week of Wimbledon fortnight. |
| Why not pop up to The
Victoria to enjoy some English strawberries before
heading home for a spot of national disappointment. |
| If you are lucky enough
to have tickets remember we are very close to the
hallowed arena and still have a couple of rooms
available. |
|
| Finally
it may be helpful to know that we are closed on
the evening of 3rd June and again at lunch time
on the 10th of June – this aside the doors
shall be very much open to all. |
| |
| Stop press...unfortunately
the event mentioned above on June 24th has been
cancelled due to bad weather. |

Notes
from the Kitchen |

We
have had a fabulous May here at The Victoria –

reviews with more to follow on-line and in the

|
| As
summer arrives it brings with it all that a chef
could dream of. Fresh English peas, broad beans,
courgettes, lettuce, tomatoes, fennel and potatoes
are all on the menu along with the very finest
soft fruit the world has to offer. Watch this
space for news of our very first seasonal tasting
menu, which will be showcased very shortly. |
|
| One
thing ready for immediate use is our shiny new
barbeque. Its real Rolls Royce quality and we
intend to use it as much as the weather allows
this summer. Obviously the kitchen team and myself
are normally kept firmly behind closed doors in
the heat of the kitchen however we have been allowed
a little public exposure this summer. Pop up and
meet the kitchen team before we are put away again
for the winter. |
|
With
a huge sense of relief I can now say that I have
just finished writing my latest book. Which features
over a hundred recipes written by myself and fellow
chef, Allegra McEvedy. The book is called Economy
Gastronomy and pre-orders are available from
Amazon: by
clicking here. |
|
| Watch
out for a TV show by the same name! |
|
| Bon appétit |
