This is the sun blessed issue
of The Victoria news letter!
June has been a great month
weather wise and if the experts are to be believed
July is going to be just as sunny. This is good
news - not simply because we all enjoy a bit
of sun but more importantly because we at The
Victoria have just invested in some swish outdoor
furniture to further your dining pleasure!
Gone are the wobbly tables held (sort of) flat
by varying amounts of beer mats. Herald the
arrival of sustainable wooden furniture guaranteed
to maximise your eating experience.
Not only that…..
We have upgraded our outdoor kitchen so that
it rivals the very best in alfresco dining!
We are now cooking outside every Wednesday (all
day) and also between 12pm and 4.30pm every
Saturday and from 4pm till 9pm every Sunday
evening.
Lamb kofta skewers with tzatsiki, char
grilled pitta, roasted aubergine salad
and couscous is proving to be a big favourite
as is the Seared fillet of bass on crushed
jersey potatoes with a black olive, basil
& tomato dressing however if it’s
a burger you’re after, well that’s
here too – but not the standard
limp fat filled offering, ours is a handmade
Aberdeen Angus beef burger cooked to perfection
before your very eyes.
Check out all of our Barbeque menus on
the website here. The Barbeque
is proving very popular so booking is
advisable.
Summer
drinks are on the menu too. We are offering
a pint of Pimms with a bowl of strawberries
for just £7.50 whilst our icy cold
Rioja el Talud Rose is also the perfect
summer choice. If you’re after something
non alcoholic pop in and try a glass of
Sicilian lemonade with lemon ice cubes and
garden mint.
If you’re the type who feels
that a drink must be earned to be enjoyed
then you may like to know that we are
now offering bikes for hire. We’ll
even knock up a picnic hamper if you
ask nicely! We have 4 shiny bicycles
available but please ring in advance
to book.
As regular cyclists
will know we now have a smart bicycle rack
outside our front door for our calorie burning
diners!
With all this outdoor life going on
its unlikely you have much time for
the telly any more but if the weather
turns its worth tuning in to ITV’s
Daily Cooks to see Paul cooking with
Anthony Worrall Thompson and a host
of celebrities from swimming and dancing
legend Mark Foster to Samantha Fox!
Paul has also recently finished filming
a series for BBC2 which will be aired
towards the end of August – more
details in our next news letter.
Finally…..The
end of July marks our first anniversary since
reopening the Victoria last summer. We would like
to say a big thank you to all of our staff, suppliers
and most importantly our customers for making
our first year at the helm great fun and a huge
success.
Notes
from the Kitchen
It’s
hard to believe that a year has passed since Greg
and I persuaded a bank to lend us the way-with-all
to purchase The Victoria. No sooner had we signed
on the dotted line that the world went into recession
and the future looked rather uncertain. Well,
one year on we are still working hard, 7 days
a week, to make sure that The Victoria retains
its position as the destination of choice in South
West London.
It’s
been an exhausting year but a hugely rewarding
one. Just recently we have had some great reviews
in the national press (The Times, Waitrose
Magazine, Metro) – if you
fancy a read they are on our website - simply
click here. I’m also proud to
say that we feature in an upcoming glossy magazine
produced by The RSPCA under the title of Freedom
Foods which features chefs and restaurants that
place a high priority on sourcing meat and fish
from suppliers who conform to the highest ethical
standards.
This
is a fabulous time of year for home grown produce.
Our menu features pea shoots, broad beans, young
spinach leaves, heritage tomatoes, Scottish girolle
mushrooms, baby beetroot, cherries, strawberries,
gooseberries and raspberries all grown right here
in sunny Blighty. Why not come in and feast upon
the best of British.
