August
is nearly upon us, the schools are all out for
summer and many of you have either been or are
about to go on holiday. However we do hope you
will find time for a quick visit.
Come rain or shine we will continue to cook on
our outdoor grill and rotisserie right through
August all day Wednesdays, Saturday from 12 noon
until 4.30 and Sunday evenings – why not
drop by and try our new vegetarian Portobello
mushroom burger or the grilled salmon steak with
potato salad and béarnaise . For a sneaky
look at our latest outdoor menus try this link.
If you have friends and family descending upon
you this summer you may be pleased to know that
we have hotel rooms available! Book your mother-in-law
in with us – we’ll make sure she gets
a good night's sleep and a decent breakfast before
turning up on your doorstep!
Actually
our breakfast offering is available to everyone
– not just those in the hotel. We offer
toast, fruit salad, freshly baked Danish pastries,
bacon butties and much more – we’ll
even give you a peek at the morning’s papers
for free!
Finally
don’t forget our credit crunch busting offer
available every Monday and Tuesday for lunch and
dinner – 2 courses for a tenner!
Notes
from the Kitchen
We’ve
had a super busy month in the kitchen (both indoors
and outdoors!)
The
a la carte menu features many new dishes as well
as a couple of big hitters from last year. Seared
squid with chorizo, chickpeas, tomato and coriander
yoghurt returns for a second summer season here
at The Victoria alongside first timers such as
roasted Barbary duck with black pepper spaetzle,
crushed celeriac and poached English cherries.
On
the dessert front things are also seasonally inspired.
Strawberries, gooseberries, blackberries and figs
are all featuring this month.
We
will have our brand new wine list in place very
soon. As I write the countries leading wine guru
(he told me to write that) Olly Smith is quaffing
glass after glass of wine in a bid to select a
list brimming with the worlds finest examples
of grape juice – it’s a tough job………
Finally
a quick word on TV cookery! August 5th sees the
launch of a brand new cookery show (yes….the
world does need another cookery programme!) Economy
Gastronomy goes out at 8pm every Wednesday on
BBC2. The show is hosted by yours truly and the
far more talented Allegra Mcevedy – and
look out for the Victoria kitchen and restaurant
in the show.
Do
pop in and let me know what you think!! You can
buy a copy of the Economy Gastronomy book at the
same time. For a sneak preview of the cover click
